There may not be a more influential producer in Chassagne championing their region as a red region than the Niellons. Within the family, there is no greater champion than Lucy Niellon, daughter of winemaker Michel Coutoux, who has been making their reds with increasing precision since she took over a few vintages ago. Lucy makes this village level parcel, a blend of three parcels from along the border of Santenay just a touch under the 1er Cru Clos Tavannes on the slope.
An agreeably fresh nose combines notes of earth and pepper with those of cool red berries. The attractively textured, supple and nicely vibrant middleweight flavors that conclude in a mildly austere and rustic finale that offers reasonable length if limited depth.
