Taking over the family business in 2009, Christophe is a third-generation vigneron. This 2.5-hectare estate, which farms grapes on the slopes overlooking Joigny, does things the traditional way, and all vineyard work is done by hand.
Domaine Christophe Lepage consists of only 6.2 acres, planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. The slopes, facing south/southeast overlook the valley of the Yonne and the town of Joigny. They are protected from the north by a forested plateau and the river below moderates the micro-climate, providing some insurance against frost. The subsoils are chalky, dating from the Upper Cretacious era, and are covered with flinty clay.
In 1995, the Côte St. Jacques was singled out as the finest single vineyard site around the village of Joigny and it is one of the few Auxerrois appellations that are permitted to append their names to the Bourgogne title.
