The Leflaive family’s roots in the region date back to 1717, but the wines rose to prominence under the stewardship of Joseph Leflaive, who expanded his holdings in 1905 with a purchase of 25 hectares. When Anne-Claude Leflaive took the reins in 1990, she eschewed herbicides and chemical fertilizers and began experimenting with building healthy organic soil. She believed that biodynamic farming produced wines of greater complexity and purity, a sentiment that was supported by the winery’s growing fame. Today Domaine Leflaive is entirely biodynamic and includes ten hectares of premier crus and five hectares of grand crus. Consummately elegant, Domaine Leflaive wines reflect a long history of thoughtful innovation.
