Franck Balthazar 'Sans Soufre Ajouté' Cornas 2022

The 2021 Balthazar Cornas "Sans soufre ajouté: is from young vines in the vineyards of "La Legre" and "Les Cotes," whole-cluster fermentation, aged in old 600 liter casks, bottled un-fined, unfiltered and with zero added SO2. Recent vintages of the sans soufre have been brilliant, with very floral, expressive cool fruit.

Franck eliminated the usage of artificial herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers by 2010 and works many parcels with horse to this day.

100% whole clusters are employed, and macerations last ~2 weeks with regular manul punchdowns of the cap.. Fermentations start with indigenous yeast and the wines receive a light fining before bottling.

After taking over at his father’s Cornas estate in 2002, Franck Balthazar has patiently built it into one of the Northern Rhône’s most revered addresses.
