This wine is powerful in its intensity and ripe fruitiness. Fermented in large casks and then aged in wood, it offers toastiness as well as pineapple and apricot flavors. A tang of acidity and lemon zest marks the finish.
Established in 1945 by Marcel Gitton with barely one acre, the Domaine covers today 27 hectares nestled amongst the best sites of the Sancerre appellation. The Gitton family pioneered single-site, terroir-focused wines, planted on what became the famous 'Silex' flint slopes. These sites have since become celebrated thanks to the likes of Vacheron, Mellot and Didier Dagueneau; indeed Dagueneau has cited Gitton as his inspiration, since Pascal passed on his philosophy and knowledge to the famed producer in the early 1990s. The Galinot vineyard was the first planted and reconstructed by Marcel and planted in 1959. The grape grown on this steep plot is Sauvignon Jaune which is matured half in part new demi muids, half in foudre. It usually requires at least two years' maceration in bottle to show its potential. Belles Dames is a larger vineyard, 5 hectares, planted on deep Silex soil with a perfect South East Exposition. This is a true Sancerre, Sauvignon Blanc delight.
