In Portugal there are appellations which the main characteristic is the influence of the Atlantic Ocean. Vinho Verde is the most ubiquitous, made with white varieties Alvarinho, Loureiro and Trajadura, grown on poor Granite soils. Then there’s Bairrada, the much smaller area of clay-limestone with indigenous red Baga and white Bical as the main protagonists.
What is Vinho Leve? A literal translation would be“light wine”. These wines, exclusive to the Lisbon DO, have a unique profile that combines the cool climate of the Atlantic with the mineral rich soils of the DO.
