The 2022 Malbec Alta Yari Reserva hails from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley and was 60% aged for 12 months in used French oak barrels. Dark purple in the glass. The nose offers ripe plum, mountain herbs, sage and violet nuances. Dry and chalky on the palate, the juicy, compact structure leads to a rewarding, fruity finish. This high-altitude Malbec enjoyed favorable conditions in 2022.
Since the early 1990s, Hervé Fabre has developed an enviable knowledge of the great variety of terroirs within the Valley de Uco near Mendoza. This is a relatively new wine-making region with vineyards being planted from 1980s onwards. Thanks to a very long, dry and mild autumn, this sub-region is a winemaker’s paradise. But it is in Gualtallary that we have found the best and most unique growing conditions for Alta Yari.
A very thorough study of the soils made it possible to select plots with different profiles (limestone, Franc – sandy limestone, or gravelly stony) which are located at altitudes ranging from 1350m to 1580m allowing significant thermal amplitudes. This diversity of soils and microclimates make it possible to develop a range of wines of character which reflect and respect these different terroirs.
