Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo 'Breclemae' Ghemme 1997

$350.00

Cantalupo is a family-owned winery in Ghemme, one of the principal appellations in Northern Piedmont. The acidic soils are morainic, which is to say a mixture of materials picked up by a glacier. The wines are traditionally but cleanly made, with most of the important Nebbiolos being aged strictly in large barrels. These are excellent expressions of Nebbiolo, showing aromas and flavors of red fruits, ruby grapefruit, underbrush and a very clear mineral note.

  • One of the oldest in the appellations, they are a benchmark producer in Ghemme
  • Distinct soil โ€“ a mix of glacial schist and alluvial with some volcanic soil mixed in
  • Classic, ageworthy Nebbiolo from the north of Piedmont
Hills formed in the interglacial stage by the Monte Rosa moraine (the second highest in Europe). The soil is very rich in minerals thanks to the considerable crumbling of the rocks due to the age of the morain.
