En Cailleret is the premier cru most often named the finest in Chassagne, and the one that comes closest to Puligny in style: refined and chalky where much of the village is broad. Morey-Coffinet farms 0.65 hectares near the top of the slope just south of the village, southeast-facing, on stony ground with almost no topsoil at all, most of it planted between 1985 and 1990 and its upper section the steepest vineyard in Chassagne.
Thibault Morey raises it fifteen months in 228- and 350-litre barrels, about a third new, and bottles it unfiltered. Cailleret's natural authority keeps that leanness from turning austere. In magnum, where the slower pace of ageing suits a vintage built on tension.
