The Tannat-based red wines of Madiran in Gascon South West France are famous for their high tannin and acidity. This yields a beautiful bouquet of ripe blackcurrant and blueberry, which also permeates a coated, mouth-filling, velvety palate. A real indulgence.
Founded around 1850, this family estate has seen six generations succeed one another. Following in the footsteps of his father Louis, Didier Barré, who took over in 1983, contributed to the revival of Madiran and became one of its leading ambassadors. In 2017, sisters Claire and Marion Bortolussi (daughters of Alain Bortolussi of Château Viella) took charge of the future of this flagship 25-hectare estate by forming a partnership with négociant Lionel Osmin for managing the operation and marketing the wines. Organic conversion has been underway since 2020. Another label: Domaine Bortolussi.
