"Reynard" is produced from Thierry's older vines and is whole cluster fermented, aged for 24 months in oak, and bottled unfined/unfiltered. Compared to Chaillots, this wine is darker and more concentrated, yet equally sophisticated.
Greater depth and tannic finesse than this producer's 2018 Chaillots, with violets, raspberries, blackberries and rosemary all crowding for attention at this stage. Very smooth and velvety mouthfeel, displaying no heaviness, but with a robust tannic structure that's very Cornas. Long finish, with a big, mineral undertow.
Made from 100% syrah grapes. The wine has a deep, dark color with a complex aroma of black fruits, spices, and smoked meat. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich, with flavors of black cherry, blackberry, and licorice, with a hint of minerality. The wine has firm tannins and high acidity, making it an excellent candidate for aging. It pairs well with grilled meats, game, and strong cheeses. The wine is likely to develop more complexity and depth with further aging in the bottle.
