Olivier Leflaive 'Le Porusot' 1er Cru Meursault 2019

$248.00

The Leflaive Family has been rooted in Puligny Montrachet since 1717. In the 20th century, Joseph Leflaive (1870-1953), a descendant of the founder, Claude Leflaive, steadily acquired parcels of exceptional 1er Cru and Grand Cru vineyards mainly in the village of Puligny-Montrachet and was one of the precursors of domain bottling (mis en bouteille au domaine); Domaine Leflaive began exporting to the United States in the early 1930’s.

The village of Meursault is an important appellation for Maison Olivier Leflaive as it is the home of chief winemaker Franck Grux. The Maison typically produces up to 10 cuvées including Premiere Crus; Perrières, Charmes, Genevrières, Poruzots and Narvaux.

It is a classic in our Domain. The wine is structured and expresses hazelnut, white fruits and mirabelle. It is concentrated and gorgeous on the palate with a long and elegant finish.

Terroir: Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots is located in the heart of the appellation just south of the village and bordering Les Genevrières to the south. The overall vineyard is 72 acres and Olivier Leflaive owns a small portion of it. Soils are rocky and dominated by limestone.

Vinification The parcels are hand harvested and undergo alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in barrel. The Maison restricts the use of new oak to just 20% to retain vineyard character. The wines see on average 12-15 months in barrel before a gentle fining, blending and finally bottling. The wine will rest in bottle for 15-18 months prior to release.
